I’ve mentioned it before, but my husband and I are completely blessed with two awesome sets of parents who love to watch our kiddos for us so that we can get away every once in a while to rewind, recoup, and rejuvenate from the craziness of life. This one was no different. We had originally planned on taking a few days to getaway to Palm Springs, CA, until we found out one of my husbands best friends AND my cousin were getting married the same weekend in Southern California, just about an hour apart from each other (on different days). That made our decision easy!
First, we headed to the San Diego area and stayed right in the heart of La Jolla at a historic (and absolutely adorable/charming) hotel called The Grande Colonial . Seriously, cutest hotel ever. Something about the character and charm of an older (but also newly renovated) hotel that just can’t out-match the modern, newer ones. We had an ocean view room and basically kept the window open the entire time to feel the sea breeze blowing through. I kinda miss the relaxation of it all just writing about it! The weather was perfect… anywhere between high 60’s to high 70’s. We walked down to the beach a few times and took in the salty air while walking the area. No laying out for us as it was a little bit too chilly but walking the beach and enjoying the view of the ocean was a real treat.
We slept in every morning and walked to a different breakfast spot, might I add casually and without being in a hurry (best part about being on vacation!!!!) La Jolla has some pretty dang good breakfast cafes… a few of our favorites being The Cottage and Cody’s in case you ever decide to venture to La Jolla for vaca. And I can’t not share about the (seriously) best gelato I’ve ever had. It was literally 50 yards from our hotel probably… Bobboi !!! Absolutely amazing.
Can you tell it was all about the food for me? ha! Preggo problems I guess… but not really. I just love good food. Although I’ve gotta say, my (dreaded) heartburn was at an all-time high the whole time we were down there, go figure. It was worth it. Jude’s food pallet was definitely expanded while we were away and I don’t think he minded one bit.
We then made our way to the Orange County area for my cousin’s wedding. I have a ton of family who lives there so we stayed with my Aunt and took some time to just rewind and relax at her cute little place (If you follow me on Instagram, the picture of me on the hanging swing was taken in her yard). I won’t bore you with the rest of our trips details but the moral of the story is… getaways are vital and soooo life giving for parents or parents to be. It was just what we needed as we enter this new busy season of life. Ready or not, a mama of three kids I will soon be!!!
