NYFW – Why I Went & Who I Met

Dreams do come true. But if I’m going to be completely honest, I’m not sure I ever thought I’d check this one off my bucket list. Five years ago it seemed so far fetched. But as the time got closer, I knew it was something I had to make happen… even if it meant traveling there after only being home a total of 7 hours from our family trip to Hawaii. Yep! We flew in from Hawaii around 9pm only to put the kids to bed, shower (that includes washing my hair- no small task), unpacking, trying on a million different outfits, packing, sleep for two hours, and up and to the airport by 4am. Oh my word you guys – I’m tired again just typing this out lol. I’m not going to lie- it was a big rush of energy and I think adrenaline was the only thing that kept me going that crazy 24 hour stretch until I landed and made it to my hotel in New York. It was crazy & I was crazy for trying to make it happen. I was literally ripping open boxes (from overnighting things) and trying on a million different outfits to finalize my wardrobe for the trip. BUT – it was hands down 100% worth it. I love that I have that story to tell because it shows that where there’s a will there’s a way, and when there’s a dream or a goal in sight, you can make it happen. The timing will look different for everyone but I truly believe that hard work, consistency, and being true to yourself will always pay off in the end!

I ended up meeting/rooming with one of my insta blogger besties Destiny Thompson (Truly Destiny) and we hit it off from the get-go. I totally had butterflies walking up to our room before meeting her for the first time- ha! I felt like I was in High School again. This social media world is such a bizarre yet incredible thing. Especially doing what I do! I feel like I’ve connected and “know” so many people without really knowing them, ya know?! But sure enough, she was just as sweet as she appears. We stayed at the same hotel as a few other bloggers we “know” and there were about four of us that did the whole NYFW thing together. We saw four shows total, attended a few parties and events, walked about 20 miles, took about 24 ubers (actually, that’s probably not too far off haha), shopped a little, shot a few outfits, met a ton of fellow bloggers, sight seed a little, and ate some amazing food! We packed so much into the 4-5 days we were there, it was unreal. I loved every second of it! I shared this on my stories while I was there, but I had one of those “is this real life” moments during one of the fashion shows I attended. I got to sit front/center next to one of my favorite bloggers, Becky from Cella Jane Blog. We’ve followed each other on social media for quite some time now but this was the first we had met in person. Again, I was at NYFW, attending a fashion show, sitting front and center, next to one of my favorite bloggers. Like WHAT?!!! There was a moment during the show where it all hit me and it’s a moment I’ll never forget. I kept pinching myself because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for so long and I feel so fortunate and honestly proud of myself (if I can say that) for making it happen. Definitely a week to remember!

Back to fashion 😉 … I definitely played the high and low game while I was there. A designer purse with a $17 top from Forever 21 was the details behind this outfit. And my skirt is a whopping $44! It’s so fun and can be dressed up or down. I almost paired it with a band tee (or simple tee) but opted for something a little more dressy. The loafers are from last season but they are ALL over the place right now. I’ve linked the same ones (sold at another retailer) plus a few similar. This skirt would also be super cute with some sneakers as the dress/sneaker thing is so in!

If there’s anywhere you want to go all out and take risks, it’s at NYFW. I feel like this outfit was a little on the edgier side for me. Probably not something I’d wear to church 🙂 but I loved how it turned out!
